LPGA Golfer Dies

Story by Sue Connor  Story Updated May 11, 2010

Henderson, Nevada—25 year old professional golfer Erica Blasberg was found dead in her home near Las Vegas Sunday May 9th around 3 p.m. after police received a 911 call from the home.

Chase Callahan, Blasberg’s agent stated “police haven’t given her family or me any indication of anything, we don’t know yet who, what or why.”  Callahan called Blasberg’s death “tragic for her family, the people of Corona, and the people who knew her.  For Mr. and Mrs. Blasberg, her taking her own life is not something that’s in the details that they know right now.  This is someone whose career was as important to her as her family.”

As of Tuesday police were not saying if foul play was involved and police spokesman Keith Paul would not say who made the 911 call that summoned police to the house.

Michael Murphy, Clark County Coroner, said the cause of death would be pending blood and tissue testing that could take four to six weeks to receive the results.

Blasberg was a standout college golfer at the University of Arizona.  In 2003 and 2004 she was All American, in 2003, Freshman of the Year, PAC-10 Player of the Year and played on the Curtis Cup team.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 19th at the Eagle Glen Golf Club in Corona, a private burial will follow.
